BEHAVIOUR TRAINING
I will ask for a demonstration of the problem, and then we will work together on fixing it, through a change in the human’s behaviour. I look at the problem psychologically, from the dog’s viewpoint. I use a mix of positive and negative reinforcement methods to achieve the best results. It is a ‘language’ dogs understand.
Depending on the problem, it might be fixed in one session (such as lead pulling), or it may take many months or years to eradicate (as in some ingrained fear cases).
Worst case scenario I will teach you how to manage a problem that may accompany the dog for life.
In all cases it will involve some dedicated time from the owners.

OBEDIENCE TRAINING
Depending what results you want to achieve, I can cover all basic training such as recall, impulse control, sit, stay, walk to heel, scentwork, retrieval and any number of tricks.
I will take your dog’s breed and energy levels into account to find suitable outlets for their natural behaviours.
Sessions are fun and based around positive reinforcement. Dogs love learning!

I generally don’t offer this service as it is the human who needs to be trained, not the dog!
It would be simple enough for me to get the dog to behave how I want under my roof, but the problem is that upon returning to the dog’s own house, they most often revert to how they behaved when then left.
Dogs change their behaviour when the owner changes theirs. If the owner has not been trained, nothing will change.
On occasion, if I feel I CAN make a significant difference having a dog stay with me, then I will suggest it.

PUPPY TRAINING
Best case scenario, you talk to me BEFORE your puppy arrives. That way, you will be prepared for how to introduce him/her to the home/family and you (and your pup) will know how to cope from the very first night.
Best to get things right from the get go, than to call me once things have gone wrong!
Puppies have very short attention spans, so mostly I will be talking to you and giving you lots of information – have a notebook handy. Sessions will be short and often.
We’ll cover feeding, house training, crate training, basic obedience, lead walking, biting, practice separation etc etc.
I use mostly positive reinforcement in my training, with a bit of negative reinforcement, for the best results. Negative reinforcement is NOT punishment. It could literally mean just saying ‘no’.
Puppies will have received only negative reinforcement (no positive reinforcement incidentally) from their mums in the whelping box, so it is a ‘language’ they respond well to and understand.

If you live too far away, I can offer support remotely. I can work from pre recorded videos or live footage to assess the problem. I can then advise what action to take.
Dogs respond to the energy we are projecting, our tone of voice, our eye contact and body posture.
Please note, without being there in the flesh I obviously cannot get the dog responding to me directly. I would normally show you what to do, and then ask you to copy.
Not all issues can be dealt with remotely.
